Music mogul and businessman Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been named in a sex assault lawsuit with fellow mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.
The Brooklyn native is being accused in the lawsuit of raping a 13-year-old girl along with Combs.
The lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court claims the alleged attack happened in 2000 after the plaintiff, only identified as "Jane Doe," was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in New York.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff felt woozy and lightheaded after accepting a drink and needed to lie down. Combs, Carter and another female celebrity entered the room she chose to lie down in, according to the suit. The suit claims that Carter and Combs then each raped the plaintiff.
The suit was originally filed in October, listing Combs as a defendant. It was refiled Sunday to include Jay-Z.
In response, Jay-Z released a statement on the X page for Roc Nation, the entertainment company he founded, saying, in part, "My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter from a 'lawyer' named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No, sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!"
Carter, who married Beyonce in 2008, goes on to say, "My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims and explain the cruelty and greed of people."
The suit was filed by Tony Buzbee, a high-profile Texas personal injury lawyer.
Meanwhile, Combs remains in a federal jail in Brooklyn awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He denies all allegations. Combs has been denied bail several times.
