Texans across the board–especially in the larger metro areas–have been complaining for the past few years about the long wait times for a driver’s license appointment, with some office’s booked five months out.

According to a report from Texas DPS, Austin residents can expect to schedule their driver’s license renewal or replacement office visit approximately 20 days out, while Dallas residents, on average, wait 13 days and San Antonio residents wait 33 days.

The DPS press secretary Ericka Miller told Texas Monthly in March that part of the reason for the long wait times is the lack of “qualified applicants to fill open positions at driver license offices across the state.”

Miller also noted that people are not using the online scheduling system correctly and are not showing up for their appointments.
