AUSTIN, Texas — Travis County Attorney Delia Garza has decided to reject the charges against 79 individuals who were arrested and charged with criminal trespassing during the April 29 protests at UT Austin.

In a press conference, Garza stated that “We cannot meet our legal burden to prove these 79 criminal trespass cases beyond a reasonable doubt and they will be dismissed.”

The county attorney clarified that the dropped cases pertain solely to individuals accused of criminal trespass during the UT protest on April 29.

During the pro-Palestinian protests on April 29, law enforcement apprehended 78 individuals who were later charged with criminal trespass. Delia Garza stated that her office would require extra time to assess the large number of cases.
