DALLAS  — People in North Texas awoke to tornado sirens early Tuesday morning. By the time the storm moved out, there was considerable damage and thousands of customers were left without power.

Spectrum News 1 meteorologist Blake Mathews reported power flashes, hail and very strong wind.

Before 8 a.m., Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport reported 241 flight delays and 153 cancellations. Dallas Love reported 74 delays and 44 cancellations.

Oncor, before 8 a.m., reported that it was monitoring and responding to outages caused by thunderstorms producing large hail and wind gusts up to 80 mph in Dallas-Fort Worth and the surrounding area.

As of 8 a.m., Oncor was reporting 627,154 customers without power.

Tuesday morning’s storm followed a series of storms this past weekend over the central and southern U.S. that left at least 22 people dead and a path of destruction. The worst of it occurred from north of Dallas to the northwest corner of Arkansas.
