AUSTIN, Texas — South by Southwest recently announced the world premiere of Alex Garland's film "Civil War," produced by A24, will take place on March 14 at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas, before its wide release on April 12.

The film debuts in an increasingly polarized U.S. Some politicians have even called for a "national divorce," which some have likened to civil war.

In "Civil War," Academy Award nominee Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura and Cailee Spaeny play journalists reporting on the Second American Civil War, which takes place in the near future and involves the American government and separatist "Western Forces," comprised of California and Texas.

The president of the United States in the film is played by Nick Offerman, and Academy Award nominee Jesse Plemons portrays an unnamed soldier.

Fans hoping to attend SXSW and watch "Civil War" will have to buy badges. Primary access is given to Platinum Badges and Film & TV Badges, while secondary access is given to Music Badges, Interactive Badges and Film & TV Festival Wristbands.
