TEXAS — The botched police response to the Uvalde school shooting, resulting in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers, has prompted a grand jury investigation that requires multiple law enforcement officers to give testimony, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The trial is set to begin at the Uvalde County Courthouse next week.

The 12-member panel is likely to call upon officers from different agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, in a process that could span several months.

The jurors will also have the opportunity to consider the evidence gathered from the scene that day, including audio radio traffic and videos.

The status of the officers who were issued court orders to appear is ambiguous, as they could be either witnesses or suspects in the criminal case.

Records from the failed response are being contested by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
