  • The statement comes after the Supreme Court granted an emergency appeal by the federal government to allow Border Patrol agents to cut razor wire placed by state officials along the Rio Grande

  • Abbott responded to Biden’s requests saying that states have “the right of self-defense”

  • Abbott said that Texas’ constitutional authority to defend itself “is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary”

The statement comes after the Supreme Court granted an emergency appeal by the federal government to allow Border Patrol agents to cut razor wire placed by state officials along the Rio Grande. After the ruling, Abbott posted photos of Texas National Guard members adding more razor wire on the banks of the river.

In his statement, Abbott claims that President Joe Biden has violated his oath of office after sending “his lawyers into federal courts to sue Texas for taking action to secure the border.”

Numerous cases are currently being litigated between Texas and the Department of Justice for different tactics the state is taking at the border, including the razor wire case. Most recently, the Biden administration is demanding the state give Border Patrol agents access to a riverfront park that has been a popular area for migrants to illegally enter the U.S.

Abbott responded to Biden’s requests saying that states have “the right of self-defense.”

The Texas governor has already previously declared an “invasion” at the border back in September, and he reiterated that declaration in his statement Wednesday. Abbott said that Texas’ constitutional authority to defend itself “is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary.”

In response to Abbott doubling down on adding razor wire at the border, Rep. Joaquin Castro, who represents parts of San Antonio, called for Biden to take control of the Texas National Guard.
