Dia de Los Reyes, or Three Kings Day, is a religious holiday that commemorates the day the three wise men brought gifts for baby Jesus to celebrate his birth. The Christian holiday is celebrated with food, family, song and dance, and it takes place on Jan. 6.

There are several events taking place and plenty of local bakeries that offer the traditional rosca de reyes bread here in Texas.

Austin

The Puerto Rican Cultural Center is hosting its 15th annual “Octavitas with Los Reyes Magos” event to celebrate the holiday. It’s a free event that includes a a reenactment of the three kings story, singing, and dancing for kids on January 6 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 701 Tillery St #13.

As for where to find your rosca de reyes, there are plenty of options in Austin, including at Mi Tradicion Panaderia, Casa Maria, Fiesta Mart (available in three sizes) and Easy Tiger. King cakes at Easy Tiger are now available for preorder here.

San Antonio

The Little Flower Basilica is hosting a 5:30 p.m. Dia de Los Reyes mass on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 1715 N Zarzamora St. Afterward, families will head to the parish hall where kids will receive gifts, rosca de reyes and hot chocolate. Register for your children to receive a gift here.

And, for the first time since 2020, the Puerto Rican Heritage Society is bringing back its Three Kings Day celebration on Sunday, Jan. 7, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 231 W. Commerce at San Fernando Hall. The free event includes photo ops with the three kings, arts & crafts for kids, music, food for sale from El Coqui Restaurant.

La Panaderia will have rosca de reyes available to order online or in-store in a family size or six individual portions. Local bakeries such as Guanajuato Bakery and Panifico Bake Shop will also be serving up the iconic and colorful bread.

Dallas

The Latino Cultural Center in Dallas is hosting a Three Kings Day event on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 2600 Live Oak St. The free event includes a dance performance by the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, crafts, workshops and more. Register here.

In the Dallas area, you can find rosca de reyes at Panaderia La Reina Imperial in Plano, and at 7 Estrellas Panaderia y Taqueria in Lewisville.
