AUSTIN, Texas — Austin has made the list of largest cities in the U.S., according to recent U.S. Census data. Coming in at No. 10, Austin has finally made the cut as its growth has increased consistently over the past several years.
Austin's population change from 2020 to 2022 was an estimated additional 12,547 residents. It went from 961,900 to 974,447, a 6% difference.
Dallas came in at No. 9 on the list and San Antonio is the largest Texas city in the ranking, coming in at No. 7.
As for the suburbs, Georgetown tops the list of fastest-growing U.S. cities, followed by Kyle and Leander at No. 3 and 4. Georgetown's population grew by 14.4%. Kyle's and Leander's both grew by 10.9%.
Though the Austin metro is consistently growing, the city's share of the metro area has been experiencing a population decline in recent years. Its share of metro housing declined as well.
Domestic migration in the Austin metro drove the growth in the last decade from 2011 to 2021. The highest amount of domestic migration took place in 2020.
