AUSTIN, Texas — If you plan to fly out of Austin anytime next year, be on the lookout for fewer nonstop options to choose from. Starting January 2024, American Airlines will cut a large chunk of nonstop flights — about half — that depart from the Capital City.

What You Need To Know

  • American Airlines is cutting half of its nonstop flights out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport beginning in 2024

  • The Dallas-based airline will suspend service to 21 destinations out of the 46 it serves out of Austin

  • “Austin remains an important market for American as we continuously evaluate our network,” American said in a statement

The Dallas-based airline announced it's cutting service to 21 destinations out of the 46 it currently serves.

The decision to cut flights has arrived on the heels of Virgin Atlantic pulling from its partnership between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) after less than two years in service providing nonstop flights between the two points.

It's somewhat of a change of pace for AUS, which has continued to form new partnerships with other airlines in recent years. Last month, Air Canada announced nonstop flights from Austin to Montreal beginning May 2024. Direct flights from Austin to Monterrey, Mexico, are also something to look forward to next year, as was announced back in September.

According to American, it will keep service to "all eight hubs with nonstop flights from AUS."

“Austin remains an important market for American as we continuously evaluate our network. Together with our partners, American will continue to offer customers service to 15 of the top 20 markets from AUS, while continuing to offer one-stop connections across our comprehensive global network to more than 350 destinations around the world,” a statement from American reads.

According to Airline Geeks, these are the direct flights that will be affected starting next year:
