AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is set to speak Wednesday about the recent situation at the border at the Manhattan Institute in New York City.

Gov. Abbott is also expected to have a fireside chat with the institution’s president, Reihan Salam, according to Gov. Abbott’s office.

This comes after the recent uptick in migrants in Texas’ southern border cities, leading to several events including several Republican governor’s transporting migrants to the cities of Democratic mayors, a rise in migrant deaths as they attempt to enter the U.S. via trains or the Rio Grande, and Eagle Pass, Texas declaring a state of emergency because of the surge.

Gov. Abbott will begin his remarks at 9 a.m. ET or 8 a.m. CT.
