AUSTIN, Texas — After sitting through two weeks of her husband Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's impeachment trial, Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, has spoken out in support of the Senate's acquittal.

Although Sen. Paxton was not allowed to cast a vote in the historic trial, she was in attendance every day, taking notes and hearing testimony from Paxton's former aides.

In her statement, Sen. Paxton also expressed support for Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's decision to look into the impeachment process.

"I strongly support the Lieutenant Governor's recommendations directed at legislatively and constitutionally addressing requirements for any future impeachment proceedings to ensure that due process and taxpayer dollars are protected against political weaponization," she wrote.

Patrick had a speech prepared after the proceedings where he criticized the impeachment process. On Monday, Patrick sent a letter to State Auditor Lisa Collier requesting a financial audit of the impeachment trial of AG Ken Paxton.
