SAN MARCOS, Texas — Victims of one of the deadliest fires in San Marcos history are finally closer to receiving justice after an arrest was made almost five years after the incident, according to officials.

In the summer of 2018, a fire broke out in the early morning of July 20 at the Iconic Village Apartments. The fire claimed the lives of five people and injured seven others.

Firefighters were on the scene within four minutes of the initial 911 call. In the immediate aftermath of the fire, fire officials stated the culprit remained a mystery.

The fire was ruled an arson, and officials ruled the deaths as homicides. Now, five years later, several agencies are set to make an announcement at a news conference Thursday that a suspect has been taken into custody.
