TEXAS — Another Texas man has been sentenced for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Thirty-six-year-old David Lee Judd of Carrollton, Texas, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. Both are considered felonies.

Judd was found guilty in August 2022. In addition to his nearly three years in prison, Judd will also face 24 months of supervised release and a fine of $5,691.

According to court documents, Judd was part of a group of people who entered Capitol grounds illegally on Jan. 6 after attending an earlier rally at the Ellipse. The group joined the violence that occurred in the tunnel area of the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace.

Around 2:40 p.m., law enforcement officials formed a line from the tunnel that leads from the inaugural platform to the Capitol entrance. The officers fought with a group of rioters, including Judd, until 3:19 p.m., when they managed to clear them from the tunnel. Judd was at the mouth of the tunnel during this occurrence, waving other rioters into the tunnel. He then stood directly outside the tunnel, receiving police shields from rioters inside the tunnel and passing them to other rioters.

At 3:07 p.m., Judd entered the tunnel and lit an object that appeared to be a firecracker and threw it at the police line who were trying to keep rioters from entering the building. After the tunnel was cleared, Judd joined in an attempt to push against another police line.

Since the riot in 2021, nearly 1,000 people have been arrested in all 50 states. Investigation remains ongoing.
