WORCESTER, Mass. - Saint Vincent Hospital celebrated Black History Month Tuesday by honoring current and past African-American physicians with a speaking event.
Lisa Jerry, a PCA at the hospital, has worked there for nearly 30 years and said this is the first year they held a black history event. She said there were no black PCAs when she first started and looks forward to a future when staff and leadership is able to reflect the Worcester community more.
"I would also like to see people in managerial positions, executive positions and leadership positions to look like the hospital, look like the community you live in, because people want to be able to trust they're going to come here and be trusted and not judged," Jerry said. "So that's my goal before I retire, to see those days. Hopefully it will happen."
Jerry said she looks forward to the hospital's Black history celebration being a yearly event.
