DALLAS  — Severe weather moved through the Dallas-Fort Worth area Tuesday morning, leaving damage in its wake. The storms, which produced tornadoes, prompted ground stops at Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The latter additionally put a shelter-in-place order in place. Normal operations have resumed at both airports.

Delays are anticipated at both airports Tuesday.

The storms additionally prompted several school districts to put shelter-in-place alerts in effect. They have since been lifted.

However, Grapevine Middle School has been evacuated due to roof damage and a water leak. According to Grapevine ISD, students were being bused to nearby First United Methodist Church. Parents were asked to go to the church to pick their children up.

The Grapevine Police Department reported five injuries attributed to the storm.

The school district reported that following the storm, a gas order was identified outside Grapevine Middle School, in the athletic wing. Gas was turned off and everyone was moved away from that part of the school.

There were reports of a tornado with damage before 9 a.m. in the Grapevine area. It's believed the storm produced at least two tornadoes in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Southlake Department of Public Safety about 10:30 a.m. reported the eastbound Highway 114 service road leading to Grapevine is closed.

In addition, the North Richland Hills Police Department reported about 20 homes and businesses in the areas sustained damage. There were no reported injuries there, however.

"The city is looking into the damage reports to determine what needs may arise regarding large trash and debris from the storm. An update will be provided as quickly as possible to our community members as the cleanup continues," North Richland Hills PD wrote on its Facebook page.

Grapevine Police Department posted the following message on its Facebook page Tuesday morning:

"Our teams continue to assess damage and the needs of our community, and we are helping anyone who needs to be moved to a safer location. We remain in close contact with our schools to ensure their needs are being met as well, especially with the evacuation of Grapevine Middle School. So far we have confirmed five injuries related to storms. All five have been taken to the hospital and we are waiting for updates on their conditions. Sam's Club, Walmart and Grapevine Mills Mall are closing for the day due to damage, and several other businesses in the area have additional damage, including our city service center.

"A portion of eastbound SH-114 from Southlake into Grapevine is closed before SH-121, and several side streets are also closed. We have multiple power lines and trees down, and urge everyone to avoid any downed lines. Please stay off the roads right now if you are able to do so as we work to clear debris and check on everyone impacted by damage. We are aware several homes are also without power. Remind friends not to call 9-1-1 for outages, as we want to keep our lines clear for people who need immediate help. Grapevine Animal Services is delaying their opening due to road closures. All of the animals and staff are safe. We are a strong community, and will continue to work together throughout the day."
