AUSTIN, Texas — Oct. 1 is just two days out and why not welcome it with an amazing show? Longhorn City Limits is set to start with an Austin, Texas, native headlining the show. Grammy Award-winning rap superstar Nelly will heat up the stage at LBJ Lawn. The concert, presented by Still Austin Whiskey, is free for all to attend.

American history places Nelly as the fourth best-selling rapper, selling over 21 million albums in the U.S. His career began in 1993 with Midwest hip-hop group St. Lunatics. It was in the 2000s that his music really took off with the release of “Country Grammar,” putting him at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2016, he went diamond with his “Country Grammar” album and song “Cruise” with Florida Georgia Line.

His “Nellyville” album, including fan-favorite hits “Hot in Here” and “Dilemma,” featuring Kelly Rowland, was certified 6x multi-platinum by the RIAA. In 2009, Billboard ranked him as the No. 3 Top Artist of the decade.

Since then, Nelly’s won multiple American Music Awards, a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, Soul Train Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and was crowned “Top Pop, Rap, and R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” by Billboard.

“The crowds at Longhorn City Limits have been phenomenal through the first three games,” said Chris Del Conte, vice president and athletics director. “We are so excited to welcome Nelly, one of the leading artists in the millennium, to the Forty Acres on October 1 and can’t wait for Longhorn Nation to be part of a record crowd at LCL.”

Fans can access the LBJ Lawn at 3 p.m., as Nelly prepares to hit the stage a 5 p.m. An opening act will announced later. Silent Disco is to come back for an after show performance. Three live DJs will run their set, and participating fans be given a pair of wireless headphones and an option to select from three different channels.

If you’re of drinking age, help yourself to some newly added adult beverages.

“Upon entering the LBJ Lawn, fans are invited to experience the Still Austin Music Lounge serving up a full menu of refreshments including the signature Horns Up Bourbon Lemonade on ice, and to relax in a shaded area while enjoying the show. Fans won’t want to miss surprises and limited-edition swag curated by Still Austin Whiskey Co, the homegrown grain-to-glass craft distillery using 100% Texas grains,” reads a press release from the University of Texas at Austin staff.

Tito’s Tailgate will be open to anyone that’s looking for some shade to catch the college football live streaming and enjoy their cocktails on tap. Stubb’s BBQ will also be around so patrons can grab a bite to eat.
