Miss Texas made history this week by crowning Averie Bishop as the organization’s first Asian American winner.

The first generation Southern Methodist University law student is no stranger to breaking glass ceilings. She was crowned the first Asian American Miss Dallas in 2019. Bishop represents the City of Carrollton and her platform as part of the Miss Texas scholarship focuses on unity through diversity.

Serving as the 85th Miss Texas, Bishop wants to utilize her social platforms to diversify the digital realm with her own life experience. Starting with sharing her story as a first generation law student, Bishop wants to create access to information for people of all backgrounds on social media. She plans to continue her media partnership with Fortune 500 companies to create college readiness based content, and is also working on drafting and advocating for anti-cyberbullying legislation at the state Capitol.
