WASHINGTON, D.C. — People converged before the Supreme Court on Monday night as the news leaked of a draft in which opinions indicated justices could overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

The crowd was mostly made up of those in support of legal abortion rights. There were chants, signs, and a range of emotions from somber to angry.

Some counterprotesters arrived, and there were tense moments of exchange between the dueling groups.

The demonstrations continued for hours as members of the crowd pledged to keep up the protesting through the summer. The justices’ official opinion is expected for release in late June.

“I'm shocked. I … hope that it was, just a headline that wasn't true, but you know, I think there might be some truth to it," protester Leysha Caraballo said. "And I'm hoping that protests like this, bring some attention to the fact that America doesn't want to overturn Roe V. Wade, that there is support to maintain it.”

“It looks like we’re going to finally see justice for the unborn in this country,” an unnamed counterprotester remarked.

Until the court issues a formal opinion, the Roe v. Wade ruling is still intact.
