DALLAS — As a winter storm prepares to make its way through Texas, Southwest Airlines will suspend its operations at Dallas Love Field Airport Thursday.

According to a statement from Southwest, which is based in Dallas, it made the decision based on the current forecast. Anyone traveling in and out of Dallas should visit Southwest.com to view their flight status and review the latest travel advisories.

Dallas Love Field Airport also tweeted its team is monitoring the weather and is ready to treat and clear surfaces if needed for safe operations.

Across the country, airlines canceled over 1,000 flights scheduled for Wednesday, according to FlightAware.com. Parts of North and Central Texas are currently under a Winter Storm Warning.

The Arctic front arrives Wednesday and temperatures will plummet. Widespread rain and thunderstorms will move in first. Once the temperatures fall near and below freezing, rain will change over to a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet Wednesday night.

In addition, winds will gust up to 30 mph with wind chills only in the single digits and 10s.
