CEDAR PARK, Texas — Gisella Maul could hold onto last season. The point guard helped lead the Cedar Park High School Timberwolves to a UIL state title and was named the Most Valuable Player, but she isn’t resting on those accomplishments.

“Even though we won state last year, that’s not all we want to do,” Maul said. “I set my goals for myself very high. I want to take this thing as far as possible. If going pro is what my life looks like after college, then that’s what I want to do.”

Colleges are now vying for her services, and Maul is taking the process in.

“The recruiting process is really great, getting to meet new coaches, and getting to visit new places around the country,” Maul said. “I’m truly blessed to be able to say I’m allowed to do those things.”

Alabama, Kentucky and Texas, to name a few, have made offers to the Cedar Park star. Maul credits her support system for the early success.

“I have parents that support me through this process and it helps a lot,” Maul said. “My parents show up to every single one of my games, so every game I go out there and I’m just grateful to have parents that love and support me.”

Family is the reason she picked up a basketball, and helped foster love for the game.

“Ever since I picked up a basketball, I knew this would be my life,” Maul said. “I’ve been playing basketball since the age of four. I grew up watching my siblings play. From there, I knew this is what I want to do with the rest of my life.”

Those close bonds will be tough to leave, which is why she’s looking for a specific feeling from her college of choice.

“I just want to go to a school to feel like home. I know it’s going to be pretty hard leaving my family, so I just want to go to a college where I have a good relationship with the staff. And I want to go to a school with good academics and good basketball, but the most important part to me is just a college that feels like home.”

The Timberwolves are currently unbeaten and head to Liberty Hill Tuesday Dec. 21 at 12:15 p.m.
