AUSTIN, Texas — A group of protesters gathered outside the State Capitol on Sunday in support of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms.

Attendees say not all the protesters at the State Capitol were Trump supporters. While the group was mostly Republican, Democrats and Libertarians also attended.

The rally was peaceful, and by 4 p.m. most people had left.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday announced that it is closing the State Capitol and Capitol Grounds through January 20. State officials say the move is out of an abundance of caution in light of the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Statehouses across the country beefed up security ahead of expected demonstrations leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.
