TEXAS – A year that saw long, dry periods and a great deal of drought in Texas is going out very wet.
Rain and even some thunderstorms moved through much of Texas Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Storms appeared as far west as San Angelo and extended as far east as the Arkansas border.
A low pressure system is spinning and streaming in moisture from the Gulf. Up to five inches of rain will be possible.
That rain was accompanied by strong wind gusts and cooler temperatures. The possibility of flooding exists in parts of eastern Texas and alerts are in effect.
We drove to Abilene tonight to monitor weather conditions. We are going to take a short sleep and be live with you in the morning on @SpectrumNews1TX starting at 7am! Do you think it will snow here overnight? I packed my snow gear! #txwx @rcodytv #weather pic.twitter.com/LtR9cBimBr

For much of Texas the rain will continue on and off for much of the day but the Hill Country and points west are seeing some snow. Abilene, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo and Marfa are under winter weather alerts.
It is possible that traveling through these regions Thursday could be treacherous.
Texas will dry out and the sun will reappear come New Year’s Day but temperatures will remain cool.
