AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has hit another voting milestone. On Tuesday the state saw a record high for early voting turnout.
Overall, about 46% of registered voters in Texas have voted in this election. Compare that to 2016 when 43.5% of registered voters headed to the polls during all of early voting.
It's worth noting voters do have six extra days to cast a ballot early due to the pandemic.
One of the races driving turnout this election is the battle for Texas' U.S. Senate seat. Republican incumbent John Cornyn is in the closest race of his career with Democratic challenger MJ Hegar.
“Last time I won by 20 points, so yes this going to be tighter. This is the most unusual environment I've ever run in,” he said.
