AUSTIN, Texas – Austin High School: Charles Wright has been on varsity since his freshman season and has been the Maroon’s starting quarterback since his sophomore year. In 2019, he threw for more than 2,500 yards and had 27 touchdown passes.
“I think last year I didn’t show as much as I could’ve,” said Wright. “It’s a year for me to prove myself and show I will be making a big impact in college football.”
Recruiting: After being the starting QB as a sophomore, Wright admits he thought his recruitment was about to take off. Things went a little slow, but eventually offers starting coming in, one of them being from Iowa State. This past spring Wright decided to take that offer and committed to the Cyclones. However, over the past week he started to get interest from Texas, and then the Longhorns offered him a scholarship to play at UT.
It didn’t take long for him to change his decision and commit to Texas. Wright grew up a Longhorns fan and especially a fan of Colt McCoy.
“It’s unbelievable, you dream about it and you work for it,” said Wright. “It’s been a dream of mine but that’s just part of the dream. I’ve got to go in and compete and earn my spot.”
Off the field: Not surprisingly, Wright devotes much of his time to football and working out. He says he does take time to get out to the golf course and try to fix his golf game. Wright also enjoys being out on the lake and spending time with his friends.
