Jose Arredondo is as San Antonio as they get. Born and raised on the city’s West Side, Arredondo has a connection with the community that very few have. Jose was an intern for Spectrum News from Fall 2016 through the end of Spring 2017. Prior to landing with Spectrum News, Arredondo was a writer at the San Antonio Express-News where he covered high school sports and hyper-local community stories.
Arredondo grew up in one of the most economically disadvantaged zip codes in Texas, 78207. His upbringing drives his storytelling to give marginalized communities a voice to tell their extraordinary stories. While in college, he wrote and photographed for The Ranger newspaper at San Antonio College and The Mesquite newspaper at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Jose won multiple 1st-place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.
When Arredondo is not working, he can be found in the barrio volunteering at his childhood community center or teaching photography to low-income youth. He loves basketball, movies and attending art events. Arredondo always carries his DSLR to capture the everyday lives of San Antonians.
