TEXAS -- Can you turn your lights on in the morning?

It's a question most of us don't even consider, yet for billions of people across the globe, the answer is no.

And it's not by choice.

When it comes to energy inequality, the facts are quite sobering. For example, did you know that one-fifth of the global population has no electricity at all?  It turns out the average American uses as much electricity in three weeks as an average resident of India uses in a year.

In their new documentary called Juice: How Electricity Explains the World, Texas filmmakers Tyson Culver and Robert Bryce travel more than 60,000 miles across seven different countries to shed light on the topic.

In the above video, the filmmakers tell Spectrum News Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons that energy inequality matters most to women and girls, who are virtually enslaved by the lack of power.
