TEXAS – A group of Texas moms is taking bathroom selfies to promote body positivity, reminding women that beauty, health and confidence come in all shapes and sizes.

Petrita Silvas is a certifying drug test scientist, wife of six years, and mother of a 3-year-old girl named Amelia.

"She's the light of my life," Silvas said.

Silvas is also a leader of the Austin chapter of No Excuse Mom Austin, Texas, a nationwide fitness group of women focused on promoting wellness.

"You can make health and exercise a priority in your life," Silvas said.

Recently, the founder of the fitness community, Maria Kang, saw a bikini pic of actress and singer Jennifer Lopez and thought if, “…J-Lo can do it, I can do it, too.”

Kang not only posted a bathroom picture, but also started the Lopez body positivity challenge on Instagram encouraging mothers and grandmothers to do the same. Hundreds of moms across the globe did so, including Silvas.

"I was really nervous at first because I'm not one to really show that much of myself, but afterwards I felt really proud," Silvas said.

Silvas friends and No Excuse Mom fitness buddies have been supporting Silvas during her fitness journey.

“I said, ‘You look fantastic. Keep up the great work.’ You know, just really supported them for being out there and being vulnerable and posting their picture for everybody to see," said Silvas’ friend Michelle McCallum.

Another friend, Sabrina Nelson, said: “You’re seeing not only bodies like J-Lo, you're seeing bodies that were closer to mine in all shapes and sizes, all colors, all lifestyles, all women and mothers uniting in this thing of confidence and putting our health and wellness first, putting our fitness first and showing the world. Like, here we are, here's what we look like, but we're happy, we're healthy and we're beautiful."

"I've learned to accept my body for every season it's in," Silvas said.

No Excuse Moms welcomes all women to join them in leading healthy lifestyles. Their next event is Fitcrawl, a free workout that includes running and high-intensity interval training.
