AUSTIN, Texas -- Playing softball since she was 5 years old has helped Sydney Collazos become the determined and driven young woman she is today.
- Signed a scholarship to play at Baylor University next year
- Ranked 16th in her class and got a 1370 on her SAT
“Playing softball has had an incredible impact on my life,” Collazos said. “It’s given me relationships I wouldn’t have been able to form and given me a lot of key characteristics to how I carry myself in everyday life.”
It’s also given her a chance to play in college at the highest level. Collazos signed a scholarship to play at Baylor University next year.
“Playing division one softball has always been a dream but the fact I get to do it at Baylor is something even more special,” Collazos said.
When the Georgetown senior is not playing softball, she’s often coaching it. She’s done volunteer coaching in leagues for kids with special needs. She also spends a couple days a week helping coach her little sister’s team.
“It’s another way for me to give back to the game because I had so many people inspire me when I was younger,” Collazos added.
There’s softball but there is also school--she’s ranked 16th in her class and got a 1370 on her SAT.
“I’ve never had anyone beg me to stay home or threaten me to do my work. I have always prioritized that,” Collazos said.
She’s an impressive blend of athletic talent and school smarts, but you can’t leave out her infectious attitude.
“Sydney’s personality is what is so unique,” said Jessica Bond, Georgetown’s softball coach. “She keeps us laughing, on our toes, and she’s one of the funniest people I know.”
