LEANDER, Texas -- When Greg Brown stepped on campus at Vandegrift High School four years ago, plenty of folks knew he had the potential to be a special basketball player. That potential has turned into full reality for the Vipers senior. On Friday he was presented with his jersey for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game.

“Not many people get to do it and not many people get to get it and it’s truly a blessing,” Brown said. “I’m just happy they thought I was the right person to play in the game.”

Brown becomes just the fourth guy from the Austin area to be chosen for this game. He joins Kris Clack, Brad Buckman and Jarrett Allen. The game itself will be played on April 1 in Houston and it’s an opportunity Brown has wanted for a long time.

“I first watched the game when I was 13,” says Brown. “I thought wow this game is really big for high school students and I just want to play in it.”

Before Brown gets the chance to play on that national stage, he wants to end his high school career with a state title.

Vandegrift has won 27 straight games and play their first round playoff game on Tuesday.
