DALLAS -- An incredible playoff run ended just short of a state title for Wimberley on Friday. The Texans lost in the 4A-DII championship to Pleasant Grove 35-21.
Despite giving up a touchdown on the opening kickoff, Wimberley hung tough. They would tie the game in the first quarter when Cooper McCollum hit Colby Boyle for a touchdown. They would tie the game again later in the quarter on a run by Moses Wray.
Wimberley would have chances to take the lead after creating some turnovers but they couldn’t capitalize. They would go to halftime down 21-14.
In the 2nd half Pleasant Grove controlled the clock thanks to the running of Bruce Garrett. Wimberley wouldn’t score again until the final minutes when it was a little too late.
“It’s terrible to walk out of here with not the goal you wanted,” said quarterback Cooper McCollum. “But we had a hell of a season and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
“We weren’t supposed to be here, but we fought our hardest and stayed in the game,” said tight end Colby Boyle.
“This program isn’t going anywhere and we want to be right back here next year,” added head coach Doug Warren.
