WESTLAKE HILLS, Texas — Westlake is on a dominant playoff run. The team won each of its postseason games by at least 18 and won by 60 in the state semifinals last week.
- Westlake’s offense averages over 48 points per game
- Coker has 300 yards receiving
- Greathouse has almost 600 yards receiving
“The teams we’ve played have been good teams but we’ve beaten them bad because we got up on them and kept going,” said wide receiver Mason Mangum.
A big part of the success has been the Westlake offense that averages over 48 points per game. Their offense is highlighted by a great group of receivers.
“I think it’s the best receiving core in the state,” said quarterback Kirkland Michaux.
Michaux has been able to use all his different pass-catching weapons and the skills they bring. Mason Mangum is the program’s all-time leading receiver, future D1 player and has almost 1,000 yards and 13 TDs this season.
“Mason is a phenomenal track athlete and probably the fastest guy in Austin,” said receiver Ryan Lindley.
Lindley is a senior, who couldn’t play on varsity last season after transferring, and now leads Westlake in receiving yards and TD catches.
“Ryan is probably the best route runner I’ve ever seen,” said receiver Jackson Coker.
Coker, who missed time with injuries earlier in the season, has over 300 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.
“Jackson is probably the most physical receiver in the Austin area,” said Lindley.
All of those guys are seniors, but the core is not complete without freshman Jaden Greathouse. Greathouse has almost 600 yards receiving and eight touchdown catches.
“Jaden is a freshman but doesn’t play like a freshman, he’s a baller for sure,” said Lindley.
While each brings a unique skill-set, they also are happy to share in the success.
“A mix pot but something really special,” said Coker.
“There is no jealousy, we’re all happy for each other,” said Mangum.
All these guys will be needed as Westlake meets Denton Guyer in the 6A-DII state title game on Saturday night.
