AUSTIN, Texas – Every year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, local potters host an event to support Central Texas children. The Empty Bowl Project brought in thousands of people and thousands of dollars on Sunday.

Here are five things to know about the Empty Bowl Project:
- According to their website, in the last year over $100,000 was raised to fight hunger
- Two of the projects the event helps fund are Meals on Wheels of Central Texas and the Central Texas Food Bank Kids Cafe
- Volunteers spend about 4,000 man hours helping the project this year
- Every year, more than 150 gallons of soup are donated and served
- About 5,000 bowls were made in the last year
