The latest filing shows retired District Court Judge J.D. Langley is now Reed’s judge.

The replacement comes one week after Texas' highest criminal court halted Reed’s execution.
Reed was scheduled to be executed on November 20 for the 1996 killing of 19-year-old Stacy Stites in Bastrop County.

Reed’s attorneys say they have new evidence that could prove his innocence. The new evidence sparked a social media push from legislators and celebrities urging Governor Greg Abbott to halt the execution.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issued a stay of execution on November 15. The appeals court returned the case to the trial court in Bastrop County so it could examine Reed's claims that he is innocent and that prosecutors suppressed evidence and presented false testimony.
