AUSTIN, Texas — Patients at Dell Children's Hospital received costumes Friday, just in time for Halloween.

  • Part of a program created by Spirit Halloween
  • Provided free costumes for kids

The event was part of a program created by Spirit Halloween. Over the years, the company has raised nearly $640,000 for Dell Children's and provided free costumes.

Renee Milam has been at the hospital with her son A'Zion for the past three days. He's a twin, born premature, but has more complications than his sister.

"He's having some issues with keeping down foods right now," she said.

Milam picked out a costume for A'Zion and his sister, A'Zaria. She's not sure what she has planned for the kids this Halloween.

"Just to get out and hang around and see other kids and interact, I think that brightens his day," Milam said.

Child Life Specialist Laura Wilson says these events often make her patients feel more comfortable.

"They love to come and choose the costumes themselves. Getting that choice and control back in the hospital is really important for them and then just to be able to be a kid still," said Wilson.

On October 31, the kids will have a Halloween parade and candy will be delivered to the patients that aren't able to leave their room.
