A highly anticipated change in the weather has arrived! After enduring Austin's hottest September and second hottest summer ever, the first cold front of fall swept into the Capital City region very early this morning with cooler, drier winds in tow.

Today's forecast calls for highs near or slightly over 80, which puts us nearly 20 degrees cooler than Sunday's record hot metro high of 99.

According to Camp Mabry weather readings, the cold front arrived shortly before 2 a.m. Monday with winds turning to the north-northwest.

After a brief morning rain chance, clouds will gradually clear out during the afternoon hours. You'll feel a difference out there as gusty northwest winds bring in lower humidity.

Under a mostly clear sky, most areas will drop into the 50s overnight with a Tuesday sunrise low close to 60 in town. Tuesday highs will likely only be in the mid 80s, very near the normal high of 84 for this time of year.

As is typical in early fall, this cold front's impact will only last a couple of days. We're calling for hot 90s to return for Wednesday and Thursday, then a stronger Canadian cold front is perfectly timed to arrive for ACL Festival weekend #2.

Computer models show the front arriving very early Friday morning with a 40 percent chance for showers and storms, followed by an even bigger cool down.

Plan for daytime temps in the 60s both Friday and Saturday, rebounding to 70s on Sunday. At the coldest, we're expecting widespread 40s on Saturday morning. Time to find your favorite sweaters and hoodies!
