WIMBERLEY, Texas – If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend that may end with you bringing home some new fall décor, you may want to head to Wimberley, Texas, this Saturday.
- “Gourdgeous Glass Pumpkin Patch” this Saturday
- Goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Will have live glassblowing demonstrations
Almost halfway between Austin and San Antonio, Wimberley Glassworks sits in a bright yellow building that’s hard to miss when you’re driving between San Marcos and Wimberley.
The glass blowing workshop opened 27 years ago by owner Tim de Jong. He says it’s survived so long because of the community surrounding it.
“The difference about being in Texas versus everywhere else is Texans will go out of their way to support someone that works hard and to support something that’s made here,” said de Jong.

Part of de Jong’s mission during that quarter of a century has been to share his love of art. The glass studio features free live glassblowing demonstrations every Wednesday through Sunday.
Another big way de Jong and his team are sharing that love is through the “Gourdgeous Glass Pumpkin Patch” on Saturday, September 28.
The event will show off hundreds of glass pumpkins that have been handmade over the last several months. There will also be live music, beer on tap, and glassblowing demonstrations where you can have a custom pumpkin made to take home.
Something new this year, students at local elementary schools were asked to design a monster for Halloween. The Glassworks’ team is picking a winner from the submissions and will make the monster out of glass live during the pumpkin patch.
The students who made the designs are all invited to attend and witness their monster come to life.
