AUSTIN, Texas -- They're green, they're loud, and they're also not native to Austin.
While you may not find the Monk Parakeet by the lake, you will see them around town. The birds came to Austin in the 1960s when they were first imported for the pet trade.
But the birds have a long lifespan and are very noisy, so many pet owners released them, or they escaped.
If you haven't noticed them already, look up and listen.
