AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department will have a large police presence during​ Pride celebrations this weekend. 

In light of the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, APD evaluated its safety plan and made adjustments for the events.

Assistant Chief Justin Newsom could not confirm how many officers will be working, but said they will be more than 100 percent staffed. 

There will also be security measures taken behind the scenes to keep the public safe.

"Know where you are going to go if something happens. If the first time you thought about what you are going to do when a bad or dangerous situation happens when that situation happens, you are extremely late and that can result in a less positive outcome," Newsom said.  

He also recommends to have a designated area to meet up with a group if something does happen and to report any suspicious activity to police.
