A man has been arrested for allegedly attacking an unprovoked man in the city of Tonawanda.

It happened shortly before 2 a.m. at the corner of Grove Street and Grove Place.

Avery Hunter, 24, of Buffalo is charged with second-degree assault. Police say he attacked a man— known to officers— who has Huntington’s disease.

The victim, a 59-year-old man, sustained a broken jaw, concussion, and a brain bleed. He’s being treated at a Buffalo-area hospital.

Police say Hunter was still standing over the victim, who laid unconscious on the sidewalk, when officers arrived on scene.

“This was unprovoked and despicable act, you can’t get much lower than this,” Tonawanda Police Captain Fredric Foels said in a statement.

Hunter is due back in court on Tuesday.
