The RangerACE Construction Camp in Round Rock is helping kids gain job skills that could land them a steady career. This week, the organization is hosting a summer construction camp for middle and high school students. As the Austin area continues to grow, so does the need for more construction workers.
Camp organizers hope the program helps sparks interest in careers in the construction industry.
"Exposing these kids to all different opportunities is a great way to show them different ways that they can use the skills that they are learning in school to apply them to future careers,” said Jessica Ziehr, with RangerACE Construction Camp.
The kids are learning basic safety, tool operation and a number of other skills as they work to create a basketball court for Voight Elementary School.
"It is really fun building things with other people because you can really engage in teamwork and interact with others. aside from if you are just at home you only really interact with family members,” said Adelle Carico-McLennan.
A ribbon cutting event will take place this Saturday to unveil the new court. For more information, visit the camp website.
