AUSTIN, Texas — A few youth softball teams will be heading to Louisiana for the PONY League World Series next week.
- Scheduled for World Series in Louisiana
- Concerned about the impending Tropical Storm Barry
- Hoping tournament doesn’t get canceled
The Manchaca Freedom 8U players are both excited and worried about the weather in the area. The team placed third out of 18 teams in last week's tournament, which qualified them for the World Series.
Justin Tidrow is the pitching coach for the team that his daughter, Presley, plays on.
"They are so excited and we are still focused on what we need to do this week to get better," Tidrow said. "We had to have a great week of practice in preparation for this tournament. We have just been keeping our fingers crossed about the weather."
Co-Head Coach Chris Holland started monitoring conditions in Louisiana as soon as Tropical Storm Barry formed. The team plans to leave Texas Tuesday to hopefully allow the weather to pass.
"Everything is arranged to go. We are hoping that the state of emergency gets lifted before Tuesday because we all plan to leave Tuesday morning," he said.
Holland is coordinating with organizers of the World Series and hopes there will be a solution, if things don't go as planned.
"I hope they will reschedule. This whole thing is about the girls. Their safety is our number one priority," Holland added.
