DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas -- A restaurant in Dripping Springs had to evacuate Friday night after several feet of water entered the restaurant patio and dining room.

  • Restaurant began flooding during dinner rush
  • Flooded before in October 2015
  • Last cleanup took a week

Homespun Kitchen & Bar owner Jennifer Walker said the restaurant was in the middle of the dinner rush when water started rushing inside.

"It was raining really hard, which is not a big deal, but all of a sudden the water from Ranch Road 12 started coming through and then hitting up through the pavilion, and it came into the kitchen, dining room, and we had to leave. It was over four feet of water," Walker said.

She said there was no time to grab anything, she only left with her keys.

"Most of the cars were flooded that were in the parking lot. We had to get people out as fast as we could. There was actually still food sitting, waiting to be expedited," Walker said.

Walker said that this is not the first time this restaurant has taken on multiple feet of water. Back in October 2015, three feet entered the restaurant and a similar cleanup had to happen like Walker and the community are having to do now.

"We'll be back as fast as we can. Last time it took a week, we're gonna hope that's all it takes this time," Walker said.

To see this happen to her restaurant again, Walker said, is heartbreaking.

"It's very emotional. We started this as kind of a something I wanted to do for a long time, and just put all of our heart and soul in and work long hours, work hard and we're finally at the point where we're really actually doing pretty good, so this is like a really devastation thing," Walker said.

In the meantime, members of this tight knit community were pitching in Saturday morning, helping pressure wash tables and chairs, clean and sort bottles from the bar, and sweep water and mud from the floors.

"It hurts, it hurts, but look at the community. I mean, this is amazing. That's the little town of Dripping Springs. Pretty amazing," Walker said.
