AUSTIN, Texas -- A spring storm that moved through Central Texas Friday afternoon brought heavy, sustained rain and hail to some areas.

Viewers in Fredericksburg reported pea-sized hail. About 6:25 the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Travis County until 9:30 p.m. The warning included Hay County as well.

Just after 10 p.m., the Lower Colorado River Authority reported one floodgate is opened at Tom Miller Dam in Austin were underway. Residents were urged to protect themselves and their property as flows were fast and water levels were higher than usual downstream of the dam. The LCRA is monitoring rainfall and inflows, and is ready open additional floodgates, if necessary.

Austin-Travis County EMS reported numerous water rescues in the Austin area Friday evening. In several cases drivers became stranded as water was rising around them. One driver was able to escape her vehicle at 8509 FM 969. At 6720 Old Bee Caves Rd., a vehicle was swept away. All of the vehicle's occupants made it safely out of the water, however. 

Barton Springs Pool is closed due to flooding. Deep Eddy Pool will open at 6 a.m. to accommodate morning swimmers and will continue to stay open at 6 a.m. until Barton Springs can reopen.

Social media users reported flooding along Interstate 35. About 7:00 p.m., ATXfloods reported about 226 crossing were closed in the Central Texas region.

The National Weather Service warned of the possibility of flooding in Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Kyle, Buda, Dripping Springs and numerous other areas in Hill Country.

 
 The good news is the storm is anticipated to move out Friday night and the forecast for the weekend is mostly clear with highs in the low 80s.
