AUSTIN, Texas -- Ashtin Zamzow began her college track career at Texas A&M, her parents' alma mater. After one year in College Station, she bucked family tradition, realized her heart was in Austin and transferred to Texas.

  • Set school record in heptathlon
  • Planning wedding with fellow decathlete

Since arriving at UT, she’s set school records and accomplished even more off the track. Zamzow has been making hard look easy. She competes in the women's heptathlon, a grueling two-day, seven-event challenge.

"It's kind of like a non-stop continuous track event," Zamzow said. "I'm shocking myself as I do all this."

Zamzow set a new Texas school record in the heptathlon at this year’s Texas Relays, posting the second-best score in the world this year.

"I knew I was going to put up a big score, but I didn’t know it was going to be that big,” Zamzow said.

Seven events isn’t enough for Zamzow, though. She's added an eighth to her to-do list. She's planning a wedding to fellow Longhorn and decathlete Wolf Mahler.

"Getting ready for a marriage is the best thing,” Zamzow said. “I'm so excited for it."

It's not all love between the two Longhorns, though.

"There's some picking and some teasing and just competitive nature that we share, which is fun," Zamzow said.

The perfect honeymoon for these two is obvious. A trip for two to compete in next Summer's Olympics.

"My wildest dreams. That would be like the coolest thing that ever happened to us,” Zamzow said. “Now it's like oh my gosh, I'm getting to that point where it's possible.”
