AUSTIN, Texas – One man is dead and another injured after a shooting at a Central Austin hotel Wednesday morning. It was the second deadly shooting to take place overnight.

  • Man killed in shooting at La Quinta Inn
  • Second victim stabilized
  • Police said there were multiple shooters

At 3:53 a.m., police responded to the incident where two men were shot in the parking of the La Quinta Inn on I-35 and East Highway 290. Both of the men had multiple gunshot wounds and were transported to Dell Seton Medical Center.

One of the men, 38-year-old Bruce Martinez, died at the hospital at 4:20 a.m. The other man is currently in stable condition.

La Quinta security guard Jasmine Adams, who witnessed the incident, said she heard gunshots coming from the parking lot and found two people shot. She said she has never encountered an incident like this before.

"I'm shaking, he's shaking. There was a lot going on, you know what I mean? It was crazy. I'm still kind of shook up," Adams said.

Austin police said in a press conference that they know there were multiple shooters and they do not believe the people involved were staying at the hotel.

"We're really asking for the public's help. If anybody heard anything, if anybody saw anything, if anybody has contacted them after this happened and given any information as to what happened, we would like for them to contact us," said Lt. Jeff Greenwalk of APD's Homicide Unit.

Witnesses saw a black Dodge Charger leaving the scene of the shooting. The Charger was later found abandoned on East Riverside Drive later that morning. Police have taken the car in for evidence.

The victim is described as a 38-year-old male. His identity will not be released until his next of kin is notified.

At this time there are no suspects in custody. If anyone has any information they are asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588.
