AUSTIN, Texas — Skies were too cloudy over Texas to see the view but, for skygazers elsewhere in the world, all eyes were aimed at the moon Thursday night for an interesting site.

  • Skies too cloudy to see in Texas
  • The moon appeared to move directly over Saturn

In what's called an occultation, the moon appeared to move directly over Saturn, at least from our point of view on planet Earth.

Astrophotographer Grant Peterson in Johannesburg, South Africa, used his telescope to magnify the event then simply snapped a photo with the eyepiece with his smartphone.

In the above video, Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons describes the event in more detail.
