SAN MARCOS, Texas — Susie Mullen, better known as "Ms. Susie the Viking Goddess" passed away on Sunday morning, according to a friend.

  • Ms. Susie passes away
  • Students share their memories of her
  • In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hays County Food Bank

Mullen worked as a cashier at Jones Dining Hall at Texas State University for many years.

Millie Dorsett met Mullen when she was just a freshman at Texas State in 2010.

"I noticed off the bat, she had a sweet spirit, just a great attitude," said Dorsett. "She used to always tell me that she had the best seat in town. She loved interacting with the students."

Dorsett didn't have any family in town, and Mullen made her feel more at home with her smile and kindness. She became close to Mullen when she started working for the university.

"One thing she always wanted to do was just make that connection right there and just make that one moment better from the students," she said.

Mullen suffered from various health conditions over the years. She was taken off life support last week and put in hospice.

Over the past week, many current and former students have shared their experiences with Mullen on social media using the hashtag #ThankYouMsSusie.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asking the public to donate to the Hays County Food Bank, a cause that Mullen was passionate about.
