AUSTIN, Texas -- Beto O'Rourke, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders are all running neck-and-neck with President Trump in Texas. That's according to trial 2020 presidential match-ups from Quinnipiac University released Thursday.
The survey of more than 1200 Texas voters have both Biden and O'Rourke trailing Trump 47 to 46 percent. Trump leads Sanders 47 to 45 percent. All are within the margin of error.
Biden and O'Rourke have yet to announce if they're running, but O'Rourke says he's made a decision and will make it known soon.
“I think what we’re seeing is evidence, poll after poll after poll, that Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country,” said Manny Garcia, Executive Director of the Texas Democratic Party.
But Republican analyst Ted Delisi said he doesn’t think it’s a sign that Texas can no longer be counted as reliably Republican.
“I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but I do think we’re headed toward a more competitive environment,” Delisi said.
The only Texan currently in the running is Julian Castro. In the hypothetical matchup, he lags behind Trump in Texas by five points.
