AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin Police officer was hit by an alleged drunk driver Wednesday in southeast Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, the incident happened at the intersection of East Riverside Dr. and Grove Blvd. around 9:30 p.m. 

Police said an officer was headed north on Grove Blvd. and was going to turn left on Riverside Dr. Police said he had the right of way. As the officer was turning, a driver of a pickup truck struck him.

An additional passenger in the truck told police he was on his phone and didn't see the police vehicle in the intersection.

The officer sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody at the scene of the crash.
